SmartPack AI automates the complete journey from an unpacked item to a labelled, sealed and dispatch-ready carton. By combining 3D vision, intelligent box selection and robotic handling, the system chooses a suitable carton, packs the items efficiently and moves the completed box into the next stage of the fulfilment process.

Packing efficiency starts with choosing the correct carton.
SmartPack AI uses high-precision 3D vision to scan the items and determine their dimensions before packing. The system then selects the most suitable available carton size, helping reduce unnecessary empty space, packaging material and shipping volume.
Up to three case erectors can be incorporated into the standard concept, with the number and configuration adapted to the required range of carton sizes. Once the correct carton has been formed, it is transported automatically to the robotic packing station.
This creates a controlled process in which box selection is based on the actual items being packed rather than operator judgement or a fixed one-size-fits-all rule.
Intelligent robotic packing
At the packing station, the 3D camera identifies the shape, dimensions and position of each item. The robotic arm then grips and places the products into the selected carton.
The AI-driven handling system adapts to items of different shapes and weights, allowing mixed products to be packed without requiring every order to follow one rigid pattern.
Once the carton has been filled, it can continue automatically through the remaining packing stages:
- Automatic label application
- Carton closing and sealing
- Weight or volume verification
- Transfer to conveyor or sortation
- Routing to the correct dispatch destination
The result is a connected packing process that reduces repetitive manual work and creates more consistent flow from order fulfilment through to dispatch.
Integrated around your operation
SmartPack AI can be configured around the products, carton range, required throughput and available space within the operation.
The standard system is designed for cartons up to 600 × 400 × 300mm, with an optional configuration for cartons up to 800 × 600 × 400mm. Individual products can typically range from 100g to 8kg.
The control and AI platform is based on Siemens technology. Yaskawa is the recommended robotic arm, although other robot brands can be incorporated where required.
A complete installation can include multiple case erectors, carton and product conveyors, automatic labelling, carton sealing, weight and volume checks and sortation.
